Not her again…
Got a chance to properly drink in being part of this immersive and masterfully curated show After Image at Geelong Gallery in October. Such a privilege to be amongst accomplished artists dating from the 16th century!
My work, Served bold (2023), was sitting proudly between a Cornelius Galle I engraving after Peter Paul Rubens (Judith beheading Holofernes, 1616-18) and a Jan Saenredam engraving after Hendrick Goltzius (Judith with the head of Holofernes, 1595).
This selection of prints from the Colin Holden collection and the Gallery’s extensive holdings represents the diverse ways that artists have drawn on art historical precedents. Across genres and eras, each of these prints refers to the work of earlier sculptors, painters and printmakers, appropriated variously in homage or contemporary critique. Includes works by Rew Hanks, Chris Orr, and Sue Pickford, among others.
